Ecosystems’ Sustainability Analysis

Analysis of Social and Economic Sustainability in Territorial EcosystemsUnlocking Resilience and Inclusivity through Place-Based Intelligence

Our service, Analysis of Social and Economic Sustainability in Territorial Ecosystems, provides public and private actors with tools, metrics, and strategic insights to understand and enhance the sustainability, equity, and resilience of local and regional systems. In an era of ecological transition, economic uncertainty, and demographic transformation, this service helps territorial stakeholders shape policies and investments that are socially just, economically viable, and spatially aware.

Core Areas of Analysis and Support

  • Social Cohesion and Territorial Equity:
We analyse disparities and inclusion gaps using indicators aligned with the European Pillar of Social Rights, the EU Territorial Agenda 2030, and Just Transition principles, focusing on vulnerable populations, gender equality, ageing, migration, and youth opportunities.
  • Economic Resilience and Circularity:
We assess economic structures, labour markets, innovation capacity, and the potential for green and circular economies, aligning with the European Green Deal, New European Industrial Strategy, and Smart Specialisation (S3) frameworks.
  • Local Development Models:
We evaluate the effectiveness and inclusiveness of place-based development strategies—rural revitalisation, urban regeneration, or post-industrial transition—guided by LEADER/CLLD, Cohesion Policy 2021–2027, and Mission-Oriented Innovation.
  • Multilevel Governance and Stakeholder Engagement:
We map institutional arrangements and support participatory processes that foster democratic innovation in line with EU multilevel governance principles, European Democracy Action Plan, and Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) methodologies.
  • Socioeconomic Impact of Transitions (Green, Digital, Demographic):
Our approach integrates dynamic impact analysis to support local readiness for the twin transition, identifying winners and at-risk sectors through the lens of the Just Transition Mechanism, Digital Decade 2030, and EU Rural Vision 2040.
  • Territorial Innovation Systems:
We map knowledge flows, institutional density, and collaboration networks, supporting ecosystems of innovation under the Regional Innovation Valleys and European Innovation Ecosystems (EIE) frameworks.
  • Indicators and Evaluation Tools:
We use advanced, policy-aligned tools such as the Urban Agenda for the EU indicators, ESPON Territorial Impact Assessment models, and OECD Wellbeing Frameworks tailored to the specific characteristics of cities, regions, or cross-border areas.
  • Policy Coherence and SDG Integration:
We ensure that social and economic planning is integrated with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the EU SDG monitoring framework, and integrated territorial investments (ITI) principles under cohesion policy

We draft the pre- and post-analysis of the impact of innovation on the socioeconomic environment by adopting state-of-the-art analysis in open-innovation issues and a complete user-centric check of initiatives that include user engagement and user-innovation steps. The impact assessment is performed through qualitative and quantitative evaluation. We also adopt foresight methodologies to outline potential long-term scenarios for innovation in ecosystems by checking parameters related to territorial and social foresight, economic scenarios, technological scenarios, resource scarcity
